A manager calls you:

"Someone on my team just messaged me that they miscarried. What do I say? What do we do?"

1 in 7 employees

face pregnancy loss, death in the family, or a life-threatening diagnosis each year. In a company of 100, that's about 14 people.

That number might feel high compared to what you see. Around 80% of pregnancy losses occur before employees have shared news of their pregnancy at work1—before anyone at work even knows. The loss never reaches HR because the pregnancy never did.

What HR leaders told us

"The first weeks are an admin maze. We're juggling LOA, state compliance, and benefits coordination—all while the employee is already overwhelmed."

"Managers want to help but don't feel confident having trauma-informed conversations."

"EAPs have proven inadequate for supporting our team or the employee in these situations."

What we offer

To support teams through the hardest life moments, we created a comprehensive care benefit that combines manager guidance, admin logistics, and grief-specialized care.

When a profound loss or serious health diagnosis occurs, we activate a single point of contact: a dedicated Care Guide who supports the employee from day of the event through the first year—while partnering with HR and coaching managers along the way.

Our HIPAA-grade privacy ensures employees receive the same confidentiality with their Care Guide that they would with a physician—so they feel safe reaching out when it matters most.

A timeline of care

Before the event

Employees are matched with a Care Guide through a light-touch intake—so when a hard moment hits, they already know who to reach out to. Managers and HR receive practical training on trauma-informed conversations.

Day of the event – Day 14

Employee, manager or HR can activate the Care Guide with just one text.

During the acute window, the Care Guide:

  • Distress assessment and personalized safety plan for moments of crisis
  • State program navigation (FMLA, PFML, SDI, etc.)
  • LOA & benefits coordination, freeing HR to focus on approvals rather than case management
  • Manager coaching on how to show up supportively
  • Wellbeing monitoring through frequent check-ins (7-day availability) and coordination with health providers

Day 15 – Day 365

Support continues through the same Care Guide throughout the first year.

During sustained recovery, the Care Guide:

  • Grief-integration programs tailored to their situation (miscarriage, child loss, cancer diagnosis, etc.)
  • App resources including peer support, meditation, journaling, and educational content
  • Support network coaching on how to show up, with permission
  • Regular check-ins to monitor wellbeing and adjust support as needed

Anniversaries & triggers

Known high-risk moments are proactively supported. The Care Guide reaches out ahead of anniversaries, holidays, and medical milestones. Care ramps up as needed without restarting intake.
